"Mini Robots Mimic Honeybee Dance: A Revolutionary Model for Decision-Making"
"Mini Robots Mimic Honeybee Dance: A Revolutionary Model for Decision-Making" In a groundbreaking study, researchers at the University of Barcelona have found inspiration in an unlikely source: honeybees. The intricate group behavior and decision-making processes of these buzzing insects have become a blueprint for a swarm of mini robots, known as kilobots, in a bid to explore decentralized consensus-building. Led by Professor M. Carmen Miguel, whose previous studies delved into leadership among schooling fish and social interactions among bird flocks, the team programmed 35 kilobots equipped with LED lights, tiny legs, an infrared-light receiver, and dance moves inspired by the renowned John Travolta in "Pulp Fiction" (albeit on a smaller scale). The objective was to replicate the interactions among bees, particularly the 'gaggle dance' performed by scout bees when they discover potential hive locations. The dance conveys vital information about the site...
