Puttur: Class 2 student dies after honeybee attack



In a tragic incident, a Class 2 student who was undergoing treatment after being attacked by a swarm of honeybees succumbed to her injuries on October 11 in Puttur. Another student injured in the same attack is currently receiving treatment at a hospital, while a local resident who rushed to rescue the children has recovered.

The deceased has been identified as Jisha (7), daughter of Kiran from Kootelu in Padnur village and a Class 2 student at Tenkila Vivekananda Kannada Medium School. Her cousin, Pratyush (10), son of Kiran’s brother Kishore and a Class 5 student at the same school, sustained serious injuries and is under treatment.

Local man stung while attempting rescue
The incident occurred on the evening of October 10, when the two children had alighted from their school vehicle near Sediyapu-Kootelu and were walking home. Suddenly, a swarm of honeybees attacked them. Hearing their screams, a local resident, Narayana (40), rushed to rescue the children but was also stung by the bees.

All three were immediately taken to different hospitals in Puttur. Due to her critical condition, Jisha was later shifted to a hospital in Mangaluru, where she succumbed to her injuries. Pratyush’s condition reportedly deteriorated, and he has also been moved to a Mangaluru hospital for advanced treatment. Narayana, meanwhile, is said to be recovering.

The untimely death of Jisha, the couple’s only daughter, has left the family and the local community in deep grief.
