Ministry reports sea turtle death caused by abandoned fishing nets

On 6 August 2025, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, through its Marine Protection Department, reported the death of a sea turtle that became entangled in abandoned fishing nets in the open sea. The entanglement caused suffocation, leading to the turtle’s demise.

The Ministry urges fishermen and seagoers to collect their equipment after completing fishing activities and verifying that no tools or nets are left in the water. This precaution is vital to safeguarding marine life and maintaining a healthy marine ecosystem.
