Broadstairs beekeeping couple triumph at Kent County Show and Royal Welsh Show with their award-winning honey

Gary and Shayne Luckhurst received a first prize for their honey at the Royal Welsh Show


Broadstairs beekeepers Gary and Shayne Luckhurst have triumphed at both the Kent County Show and the Royal Welsh Show, scooping top prizes once again for their honey products.

Fairfield Honey and products are made from colonies at Gary and Shayne’s Fairfield Road home and further hives they have at five Thanet farmland sites.

The pair have been keeping bees for around eight years and started entering competitions five years ago.

Last year the couple won top prizes at the county show and at the National Honey Show in Surrey.



This year they are still on winning form with a blue ribbon for best in Kent and 12 other first prizes at the county show (pictured above) and then top places at the Royal Welsh show at Builth Wells (below) – one of the largest agricultural shows in Europe.



Gary, who also works as a gardener, said: “We are really pleased and got to put Thanet on the map. The Royal Welsh show is vast – three or four times the size of the county show – and runs for four days. It was amazing.

“We went to Detling at the beginning of the month, winning the blue ribbon for a second year, and the Royal Welsh show at the end of the month so it has been mad.”



Gary and Shayne carry out the whole honey production process themselves – caring for the bees and seeing that they feed from Thanet flowers, harvesting the honeycomb, extracting and straining and then filling the jars ready to sell.
