OSU EXTENSION WITH WORKSHOP ON BEEKEEPING
The Oregon State University Extension Service and Umpqua Valley Beekeepers Association will have the Buzz Academy on Saturday, February 22nd.
The workshop will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Extension office on Southeast Douglas Avenue, next to the courthouse.
The event will be tailored for aspiring beekeepers, whether they already have a few hives or are just beginning to explore the idea of beekeeping. Organizers say the class is designed to provide participants with the foundational knowledge they need.
Workshop highlights:
*Selecting the ideal hive. Learn how to choose the right hive for the owner’s needs
*Sourcing bees. Understanding the best practices for acquiring their bees
*Essential equipment: get acquainted with the necessary tools for successful beekeeping
*Honeybee biology and lifecycle: Gain insight into the biology and lifecycle of honeybees
*Legal aspects of selling honey: Learn the regulations and best practices for selling honey safely and legally
The workshop will cost $30. Registration is required by February 21st. Space is limited.
