Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, and Animal Rights Anton Refalo has announced the opening of applications for a financial aid scheme and targeted measures aimed at supporting beekeepers in Malta and Gozo. The scheme is co-funded by both European and national funds.

Minister Refalo emphasized the government’s continued commitment to strengthening the beekeeping sector as a vital part of Maltese agriculture and the natural environment.

He stated that this funding is not only an investment in high-quality honey but also in the broader ecosystem and biodiversity that sustain rural life.

The aim of the scheme is to further enhance the quality of Maltese honey and reflects the government’s concrete commitment to supporting the beekeeping sector.

Support will be provided through measures that promote access to technical knowledge, disease control, and improved production and quality control methods.

These initiatives are expected to help beekeepers reduce certain costs while boosting the commercial potential of their products. Moreover, the sector plays a key ecological role by providing pollination services to both wild plants and farmers.

Applications may be submitted between July 28 and August 14, 2025, at the Agriculture and Rural Payments Agency (ARPA) office at the Pitkali Markets, or at the Gozo office located at the Government Experimental Farm.

Guidelines have already been sent to registered beekeepers and their associations. During this period, beekeepers may also seek assistance from ARPA.
