Beekeepers at the fair


The international beekeeping fair "Kosova 2011", organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, opened on Thursday in "Mother Teresa" square in Pristina.

The General Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Kapllan Halimi, said that the organization of this fair is largely influencing the rise of the importance of the beekeeping sector and the promotion of the achievements in the production of this sector. "The great demands for bee products represent the need for the provision of training and advisory services for the purpose of educating beekeepers, especially for those who choose beekeeping as an activity for the first time, and we as the minister have continuously supported this in this aspect sector", said Halimi.

The President of the Association of Beekeepers of Kosovo, Haxhi Demukaj, said that agricultural production does not depend only on the work or lack of work of farmers, but also on climatic conditions. "Honey production this year was better than last year. The average production of honey at the country level is about 15 kg per beehive this year, but we as an association cannot be too satisfied, because we calculate that the production can be much better", emphasized Demukaj.

At this fair, which will be open until Saturday, around 70 exhibitors from Kosovo, Albania, Macedonia and the Presheva valley are promoting their honey products.

While, according to the data of the Ministry of Agriculture, there are estimated to be around 6400 beekeepers in the country, with around 75000 beehives. /Telegraph/
